If spending late nights in altered states listening to ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers’, ‘Rage Against the Machine’ & ‘Faith No More’ could spur the birth of a child, then Sydney band Lalotoa would be it.
Sinking their teeth into the albums, ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magic’, ‘Evil Empire’ & ‘King for a Day’ started them on a musical journey which has not only made Lalotoa a hidden treasure, but one of the most dynamic live forces of the Sydney underground music scene today.
Their sound is a melting pot of their original influences, but in many ways they’ve made it into a musical style of their own. They are a Punk Funk / People Power band with a personaised People Politic ethos to their songs. The stylistic edge to Lalotoa’s sound has kept their music current and has given them the flexibility to evolve over time.
Spending many years holed up at Noisegate Studios in Sydney’s Outer West, Lalotoa have honed their craft through tightening their song writing skills and strengthening their approach to live performance.
Their long journey has led them to record something that they are most proud of, ‘waiting for the sun’. With longtime friend, Ian Pritcett (Producer; The Beautiful Girls) at the helm, Lalotoa tracked ‘waiting for the sun’ live in one day. Defying the myth that big budgets & weeks in the studio are the only necissary options when it comes to acheiving a quality recording.
This current work represents the sound that Lalotoa have been known for and have worked hard to create. Having this music on tape will help the band push their vision out there to the masses for more people to hear and see.
‘waiting for the sun’ speaks loudly about Lalotoa’s beliefs that people can come together in these uncertain times to unite and stand together as one. Their music represents a long overdue return to powerful riffs,
people power uplifting songs and a refreshing change as far as groove based rock music is concerned.
